Purpose of the Position

To advance Musica Viva Australia’s mission by acquiring contributed revenue from individual giving – via donations at any level, major gifts and bequests, annual appeals and by servicing donors and stakeholders to the highest possible standard.

Reporting/ Working Relationships

The position reports to the Director of Development with one direct report Philanthropy Coordinator. Beyond the Development team, this position works closely with the CEO and Directors, the Marketing and State teams.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Revenue Generation – Annual Giving and Major Gifts

  • Manage the implementation of new and improved strategies for Musica Viva Australia’s donor programs with a view to increasing philanthropic support.
  • Identify and cultivate potential individual donors.
  • Work with Director of Development to implement discrete campaigns and appeals (including but not limited to EOFY, Bequests & Planned Giving).
  • Achieve agreed targets towards the annual giving campaign and major gifts.
  • Manage the Newcastle fundraising including the management and oversight of the Newcastle Committee and associated fundraising.
  • Oversee successful integration of annual subscription donations campaign with annual subscriptions marketing materials as well as general donor collateral.

Marketing, Communications and Collateral

  • Work with the Director of Development and other relevant Directors to create appropriate collateral for campaigns and appeals, and to attract high-level gifts, in alignment with the Company communications strategy.
  • Ensure all donor communications are timely and on message.
  • Manage all donor communications, including but not limited to, e-bulletins, thank you messages and invitations to school performances.
  • Play a lead role in collateral approvals, including but not limited to concert guides, etc.

Donor Engagement and Stewardship

  • Lead the servicing of Musica Viva Australia’s donor community, including pledged bequestors (Custodians) and their families in NSW, and the organisation of events such as dinners and house concerts.
  • Lead moves management activity for all NSW donors.
  • Analyse giving trends, with potential for further stakeholder engagement, and managing implementation of research results.

Use of Tessitura

Proficient usage of the in-house database, Tessitura, including moves management, lists and Plans.

Review and analyse system generated reports. Maintain an active awareness of MVA annual goals and objectives.

Research and Strategic Implementation

  • Identify, evaluate and recommend current donors and potential major gift prospects and assess their interest level and giving capacity to support MVA.
  • Identify donor associates and acquaintances through relationship mapping to facilitate institutional involvement.
  • Evaluate and report on programs for internal purposes (Leadership Team, Board) and external purposes (key stakeholders, funding organisations, etc) and monitor return on investment across the Philanthropy operation, including reviewing spend and revenue budgets.
  • Research and prepare reports on all fundraising stream results, benchmarking and industry trends, and prepare reports evaluating the effectiveness of fundraising tactics by developing and monitoring key performance indicators.
  • Develop creative strategies to innovate and expand existing individual giving programs, with reference to trends both in Australia and overseas.

Organisational Responsibilities

  • Maintain healthy work relationships with volunteers and other staff members.
  • Attend meetings as required.
  • Contribute to regular and ongoing quality improvement and funder-required accreditation activities.
  • Participate in professional and performance development activities and remain up to date on current knowledge and skills related to the position.
  • Take reasonable care for their own health and safety and for the health and safety of anyone else who may be affected by their acts or omissions at the workplace.
  • Hold a valid Working with Children Check. MVA covers the cost of obtaining or renewing the check.
  • Where reasonably and lawfully required, be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, including being up to date with any recommended booster shots.
  • Maintain the highest ethical standards, confidentiality and cultural awareness when dealing with others.
  • Adhere to workplace policies, procedures and systems, as amended from time to time, in particular those that address workplace health and safety, anti-discrimination, bullying and harassment and privacy.
  • Contribute to the overall well-being of the organisation and avoid participation in any activity that might be harmful to the good operation, health, or reputation of the organisation.
  • In addition to the duties outlined above, the position holder is also required to perform such other duties as may be directed, provided these are within their competency or training from time to time.

Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications & Abilities:

  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in fundraising / relationship management in the arts and/or not for profit sector.
  • Demonstrated ability with Tessitura or another CRM and moves management system.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Systematic problem solver and researcher – proficient in collating and analysing information.
  • Excellent attention to detail, process-orientated, efficient and well organised demonstrating an ability to prioritise.
  • Team player - friendly, can-do approach to work and life.
  • Well-presented, demonstrating confidence and a passion for the arts.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
  • Ability to undertake occasional out-of-hours work for concerts and events.
  • Interest in and/or knowledge of the arts scene, classical music and music education in particular.
  • Driver’s licence and RSA desirable
