Janette Hamilton Studio
Musica Viva was able to invest in the Janette Hamilton Studio thanks to a generous bequest from longterm subscriber Janette Hamilton.
Musica Viva's Janette Hamilton Studio is an acoustically isolated rehearsal, recording and workshop studio located within Musica Viva Australia.
It is a 60 sq.m. (9x6.5m) "box within a box", and the studio space features a wooden floor, high ceilings and no windows, as well as acoustic panelling on the walls and hung from the ceiling. The space is fully airconditioned and has flexible studio lighting. Acoustic curtains on tracks run along three sides of the studio and can be moved as required.
Hire of the studio includes use of the Steinway grand piano, chairs, and large kitchen facilities. Recording equipment is available for approved users. It is also possible to bring your own equipment. A floor plan is available. Rates of hire (by the hour, half day, or day) vary according to a sliding scale.
Recording possibilities can be detailed on application (Dante Audio over IP standard). Musica Viva's building sits within a residential area. Hours are therefore limited to weekdays 8am to 8pm, with weekends by special arrangement.
Hire of the studio includes use of the grand piano, audience chairs, orchestral chairs (subject to MVA concert use) and kitchen facilities.
Please note that due to our Occupational Certificate in this residential area, the Janette Hamilton Studio cannot be used as a performance space to which tickets can be sold.

The piano in the studio is a Steinway & Sons Grand Piano B-211 (length 212cm), regularly maintained by Theme & Variations Piano Services. This also includes an adjustable padded professional concert bench.
Please note that it is not possible to remove the piano from the space, however it can be repositioned.
The Kim Williams Digital Production Studio is attached to the Janette Hamilton Studio to assist in the recording process. It features studio monitors and an iMac Pro with Pro Tools and Logic Pro. The Digital Production Studio is the ideal place to record and edit recordings.
Use of the Kim Williams Digital Production Studio, as well as the use of any Musica Viva equipment, is subject to the presence of an authorised Musica Viva operator.
The Janette Hamilton Studio is situated within Musica Viva House at 757 Elizabeth St, Zetland NSW 2017. There is an undercover carpark, loading dock and lift. When parking in the carpark it is a flat lug from the car or loading dock into the Janette Hamilton Studio.
Limited (2 spaces) in house parking is available by arrangement. 2 hour non-meter parking is always available outside.
The Janette Hamilton Studio and the Kim Williams Digital Production Studio provide an ideal environment to record both the audio and visual components of an ensemble.
The installed audio equipment and recording experience is facilitated by the Dante Audio of IP standard. Dante is an uncompressed, multi-channel digital media networking technology, with near-zero latency and synchronisation.
Using Dante, audio engineers are able to record directly from the mixer onto their own laptop without any audio interfaces and directly into a DAW of their choice (including Pro Tools and Logic). If necessary, a Musica Viva staff member can assist with using Dante.
Alternatively, audio engineers are welcome to bring in their own equipment.
The Janette Hamilton Studio and Kim Williams Digital Production Studio provides a flexible space for your requirements. If you would like to enquire about using the studio in ways other than listed below, please be in touch.

- Live streams of any of the above in full high definition video and professional audio, both content one way only (eg live to YouTube) or content two ways (members located offsite around Australia or internationally)
Prices are based on a tiered scale according to hirer income.
Individual/Personal Use : $36 per hour, $275 for hires 8 hours and longer
Small to medium organisations
Tier 1 : turnover of less than $500k pa ($40per hour, $300 for hires 8 hours and longer)
Tier 2 : turnover between $500k pa and $1m pa ($60 per hour, $450 for hires 8 hours and longer)
Tier 3: turnover more than $1m pa ($78per hour, $600for hires 8 hours and longer)
Commercial company hire rate to be discussed.
Outside of business hours (including weekends) - additional $44 ph on the above rates
