Goldner String Quartet & Piers Lane

Goldner String Quartet & Piers Lane

Important Concert Update

With much sorrow, we regret to announce that the Goldner String Quartet and Piers Lane will not be able to appear on tour as scheduled, as the quartet live in Sydney and are currently in lockdown, unable to meet to rehearse. Unfortunately, this also means the postponement of the world premiere of Jakub Jankowski’s quartet, Kairos, commissioned by the Adelaide Commissioning Circle, to a future time.

However, we have been able to retain some of the concert dates with alternative performers and repertoire. Piers Lane will be on stage in Brisbane, alongside the Ensemble Q String Quartet. In Perth, we present the Darlington Quartet, in collaboration with pianist Graeme Gilling. In Adelaide, pianist Konstantin Shamray is joined by string players Cameron Hill, Helen Ayers, Stephen King and Simon Cobcroft. Uncertainty around Covid means we are not able to present live music in our other venues in NSW and Victoria.

Our hearts are with the Goldner Quartet at this time, for the cancellation of a tour which was intended to celebrate their 25 years of extraordinary music-making, their lifelong artistic partnership with Piers, and their central place in Australian chamber music.

Watch as the Goldner String Quartet - Australia’s pre-eminent string quartet, and an ensemble of international standing - journey back through our archives, reminiscing about moments and memories from their extraordinary twenty-five years together.

"The Goldner weigh every chord to perfection, and make the textures utterly transparent... Their partnership with Lane is exemplary.""

Jakub Jankowski

A new work from Jakub Jankowski is always worth the wait: on the page it may innocently say ‘string quartet’, but his immensely creative imagination can’t resist taking the audience in an unexpected direction. Jakub’s quartet, ‘Kairos’, was written for the Goldner String Quartet for their national tour with Piers Lane.

Jakub Jankowski is an Adelaide composer of primarily chamber and orchestral music. Many of his recent works have been championed by prestigious musicians from Australia and abroad, at events including the Tongyeong International Music Festival (2019), the Huntington Estate Music Festival (2019), the Lockenhaus Chamber Music Festival (2018), the Musica Viva Festival (2017) and the London International Mime Festival (2016).

To our Ensemble Patrons the Berg Family Foundation for its support of this tour.
